Nature Rocks

My daughter’s 1st grade class is holding a Native American Potlatch Ceremony.  As part of the ceremony, the children will act as “chiefs” of their family tribe and bring in a simple gift for each child from nature.  They are being asked to bring in something from nature.  It could be acorns, shells or any ‘treasure’ they find.  It is optional to add something to your nature gift but they need to try to keep it as natural as possible  My daughter and I brain stormed and came up with the idea of ‘Nature Rocks’.  They are a sweet token to give to all of her friends.  Here is how we made them:

Smooth, flat rocks

Shaped Hole Puncher

Paint Brush

Mod Podge

Step 1:  Using your shaped hole puncher, we used hearts, punch out 3 shapes per rock.

Step 2: Using your paint brush, place a generous amount of Mod Podge on the rock.  Place your leaf shaped on top in your desired pattern.  Let this dry a little bit so the leaves don’t slip around on the rock and then paint some more Mod Podge on top of the leaves.  Have them sit overnight and do one extra coat of Mod Podge on top.

We are so excited to pass these out at school for the Native American Potlatch Ceremony!
